I went to see "Portugal. The man" last night, a band with easy the cheesyest band name I can think of. It was good, great musicians, lots of ernergy. I did not know what to expect, they surprised me to the good (that last few words sound wrong and as if they made no sense in proper english at all. They should though. I'm keeping them for lack of greater or even correct alternatives...).
Thing is: I went with Mark from work. The guy with the true drinking problem and the loooong speeches about everything. He loved the band before and he went crazy over them during and after the show. He would not shut his mouth. So when I think back to that great concert there'll be forever his high pircing voice in my left ear. Not so good.
Of course we went for another beer afterwards, to the bar next to the place where we both work. We are known there. He is more so, the other customers know him and not few seek cover when he comes in. Last night it was alright. We talked to this american guy he had met before, I think his name was John. John took all the talking from Mark and so I got to be left alone for a few moments. Thanks man. I wonder why americans in europe are always bearded and are always musicians? Or seem to be? He was sitting at the bar by himself first, writing whatever in a notebook. Guys, let me tell you something: that actually works. Everybody should pick that up, it draws attention, definately. Mine anyway. Just take out a pencil and scribble something. If you don't know what just improvise. But if you do that, and in case you actually scored: don't let her see it. Be secretive.
Hm. Do I sound desperate?
While Mark and John tried to talk about bands, bandnames and music in general I was approached by somedody I really do not like but who hangs out at that bar all the time too. A bald guy in his forties, an unfunny smartass, who, annoyed by Mark with whom he was on pretty good terms at first, now always comes by and tells me how exhausting Mark is. Right. He is. But I hate you and I don't want to talk to you about anything. If the only thing we have to talk about is a person that goes on our nerves maybe we should not talk at all. I'm all bad at small talk... Ans whenever I really dispise someone it makes me want to gainsay them. So bad.
