You shall above all things be glad and young
Since I still have trouble concentrating and therefore reading more than 35 words at a stretch I started to read poetry. That sounds rather ridiculous, here, doesen't it. She turned to poetry because her attention span is that of a nine year old with severe ADD in an amusement park. I don't like a lot of poetry, and I have no more than books of about three or four poets. I like Frank O'Hara, not only because of the strange way he died and Dorothy Parker because she's bitter and funny and really smart. And now I got back to e.e. cummings. He is great. I came across him in High School and I liked him then, but later on I kind of thought it was just a bit too much of all the giddy witty playfulness. Now I can appreciate it more, it is a really artistic way to deal with words - and sounds. Poetry is like music. Touches me in the same way, at least some of it. I don't really know what it is that I can relate to in a poem. I only wish someone would write me such verses. I'm waiting for all the secret writers around me who hide their stuff exclusively in drawers and boxes and under their matress.
